Instructions: How to Insure Your International Move

You must determine the full replacement value of your goods at the destination. Provide this information in the Valued Inventory Form, either online or on a printed form.

When items are listed together, all will be considered to be of equal value. If additional listings or clarifications are required, please use the blank spaces provided on the form.

Remember: you should be indicating replacement values in your destination country.

The tables below show examples of how to enter the information.

Example Scenarios

It’s important to select the right kind of insurance, as these examples show.

  1. Pairs and Sets
A customer insures a dining room table and six chairs for $1,400.00. If the items are not insured for Pairs and Sets coverage and one chair is damaged, international moving insurance will only compensate $200.00 even if the chair cannot be replaced. However, if the Pairs and Sets coverage is used, international moving insurance will compensate for the entire cost of the set if one portion of the set is damaged beyond repair.
  2. Electrical/Mechanical Derangement
A customer insures a television for $500.00. If Electrical/Mechanical Derangement coverage is not used and the TV arrives at the destination with no evident external damage but does not work, the insurance will not cover this damage. If Electrical/Mechanical Derangement insurance is purchased, the insurance will cover the internal damage to the TV.

All items must be insured for international moving. Don't deliberately under-value your possessions. If you under-insure your consignment, the underwriter will apply a co-insurance penalty to any claims. For instance, if you insure your total consignment for half of its true replacement value, the insurer could reduce each and every part of a claim by 50%, regardless of its declared value.

You can file a claim from anywhere in the world. International moving claims may also be filed online via the northAmerican International web site. All claims insured by North American International N.A, Inc. will be settled promptly and efficiently, following any necessary claim inspection survey. All claims will be processed through our central claim department. This is another way in which northAmerican International provides you with peace of mind.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of insuring your international shipment. If you don't, and if something is lost or damaged, northAmerican International assumes no liability.
